About the Director

Prior to his debut as a director of the short film THE PHOENIX, based on his book which he wrote in 2007 and was published by Nova Fronteira – Marcelo developed a solid career in theater as a playwright and director, working with major Brazilian actors such as Wagner Moura, protagonist of Elite Squad, directed by Jose Padilha. Pedreira also wrote the script for The Incurable Ones, directed by Gustavo Acioli, which participated in several festivals around the world.

“S is for Bird is my first film that isn’t dark and tortured. It’s certainly not autobiographical but I definitely owe its colourful and sweet disposition to the fact that people would probably describe me that way. This is the first film I’ve made since I’ve become a dad.
