“Family Tree” by novelist Andrea N. Carr with a family saga where an incarcerated woman gains a four-day release to attend the funeral after, her sister’s suicide while babysitting her 13 year old son. Story uncovers dark secrets with suspense and pacing that is in comparison to Raymond Carver. I conducted an interview with the author on the power of storytelling to create empathy and change. In the series’ premiere, Mike and Gloria plan a surprise party to celebrate Archie and Edith’s 22nd anniversary. But it quickly turns into a shouting match between conservative Archie and the liberal “Meathead” on virtually every topic.
The theme of the June 2018 YOUNG FILMMAKERS FEEDBACK Film Festival in Toronto was “Pulling a Fast One”. Every single film was about characters wanting to succeed by unconventional means.
These filmmakers are the future of film. That’s why it’s so much fun to do this showcase festival.
We attempt to give you unique films that are different genres from films from all over the world.
Moderator Kierston Drier is also the future of film. So this is one of those festivals where we can look back in 5 years and go: “Wow, look at this talent!”
It was bizarre, I had to pause and finish watching in the morning because it was so surreal. It’s so strange watching people you have no connection to picking apart something you spent months to create. All the feedback was great and so affirming that i was successful in telling this arc and not being too dramatic and getting the performances as good as i could get them. After the initial strangeness of it, it was brilliant to watch.
Such a wonderful experience!
It was really cool to receive all the feedback from the audience and see the reception of your film after it’s been viewed. It’s an opportunity that no other festivals offer so for that reason i 100% recommend this festival to any and all filmmakers!
